Following Jinni's withdrawal from NMIXX, previous K-pop idols with controversial departures from JYP Entertainment are being re-examined.
6 Former JYP Entertainment Artists With Controversial Withdrawal From Groups:
1. HyunA
In 2007, HyunA debuted under Wonder Girls and immediately received attention as its center. However, fans were all shocked when she announced her withdrawal in July of the same year, five months after she joined the group.
According to reports, HyunA left due to health problems, such as gastroenteritis. Amid fans' sadness, she announced her return to the K-pop scene under Cube Entertainment, which is a former JYP executive. There are rumors spreading then that she actually had an inside conflict with her original company and decided to follow the executive.
2. Jay Park
Park Jaebeom, hereinafter Jay Park, debuted as the leader of 2PM in 2008. But after a year, he voluntarily left the group after he was embroiled in a controversy over his pre-debut SNS post "mocking" Koreans.
Gradually, the posts were reported to be maliciously translated and spread but Jay Park decided to leave for the United States as the damage has been done.
He left JYPE in 2010 and pursued a solo career as a singer, and CEO of his own agency and business.
3. Junhyeok
DAY6 is a K-pop band that debuted as a six-member band in September 2015. But five months after their debut, Junhyeok announced his withdrawal from the group and termination of his exclusive contract with JYP due to "personal reasons."
Fans then speculated that he left due to his dating rumor with a fan that rose in late 2015. During his appearance in "The Unit" in 2017, Junhyeok revealed that he left because he thought he was doing harm to the group due to rumors.
4. Jeon Somi
Somi first gained popularity after joining "SIXTEEN," the show that created TWICE.
In 2016, she established a position in K-pop after debuting as I.O.I, a team produced from Mnet's "Produce 101."
When I.O.I disbanded, it was expected she would join JYP's next girl group, ITZY. However, she shocked the music industry after leaving the agency in 2018 for YG's subsidiary, THE BLACK LABEL.
At the time, J.Y. Park posted a lengthy message on Instagram, talking about the company's rules that artists should follow.
It was then speculated that this was intended for Jeon Somi, and rumor spread that she was kicked out after disobeying these rules.
5. Woojin
In 2018, Woojin debuted as the main vocalist and oldest member of Stray Kids after winning from the Mnet's survival program "Stray Kids " in 2017.
But in 2019, he suddenly left the group after a year and seven months. The news was reported at a time when the specific reason for the withdrawal was not revealed and the schedule for the new song was just around the corner, raising a lot of curiosity at the time.
Around his transition to being a soloist, he was embroiled in a sexual misconduct scandal but it was proven that some of the "evidence" was fabricated.
6. Jinni
Jinni, who debuted as NMIXX in 2021, announced the cancellation of the exclusive contract with the agency on December 9 along with the withdrawal of the group.
According to the agency, she left due to "personal reasons," but there are speculations she was kicked out after allegedly breaking the dating ban.
