Robin Thicke’s unrated video of Blurred Lines, featuring topless models, was a Twitter sensation. Blurred Lines popularized the #thicke hashtag on the social network.

But video-sharing site YouTube thinks that the music video has crossed the line and is too explicit, according to E online.

Last March, Robin Thicke tweeted, “YouTube took down the Unrated version of #BLURREDLINES because it was too hot."

The clip can no longer be found on YouTube, although a much tamer version remains on the site, reports E online.

Almost two weeks ago, the American R&B singer’s single scored him his first number one British hit.

The Official Charts Company (OCC) said that “Blurred Lines” became the fastest selling single of 2013 in the country. And Paul Sexton of Billboard is reporting that “Blurred Lines” is breaking its own records.

The song, which features hip-hop artists T.I. and Pharrell Williams, sold 190,000 copies during its first week on sale. “Blurred Lines” knocked British rapper Naughty Boy’s dance track “La La La,” into number two.

It followed its opening sales of 190,000 by selling close to 199,000 in its second week, reports Sexton. The single broke its own selling record in one week.

The OCC is hailing Thicke’s success as another sign of a banner period for the singles format. Average sales for “Blurred Lines” over the past eight weeks have been 150,000. The eight consecutive periods of six-figure sales of the single has not happened since 1999, without the aid of charity releases, OCC says.

Hearing the news, Thicke told the Official Charts Company, “It is an honor and a pleasure to be number one in the UK. It’s something I’ve always dreamed of.”

The original unrated version of “Blurred Lines” shows the three artists surrounded by topless models and caused quite a controversy when it was first released in March. It can only be found on video-sharing site Vevo.

The video is stamped with the hashtag #THICKE every few seconds.

The single has been well received as shown in its reviews. Amy Lipsky of TheCelebrityCafe.com said that “Blurred Lines” has a unique blend of soft R&B and rap that makes it hard not to sway your hips to the beat.

Speaking with the Breakfast Club, Robin Thicke explained, “I've realized as I've gotten older that we all think we're living either in a black or white world, or on a straight path, but most of us are living right inbetween those straight lines,” reports Hot New Hip Hop.
