George Takei Facebook Official Ghostwriter Apologizes, Actor Says Reliability Of Posts Is What’s Important

Multitudes of fans of Star Trek star and gay activist, George Takei were dismayed to learn that their online here is not in fact a one-man show on Facebook. But the actor said, “What is important is the reliability of my posts,” speaking to Wired as reported by Mashable.

According to the tech blog, in an email that journalist Rick Polisto sent to Jim Romenesko’s media-watching blog, Polisto said that he was paid $10 a joke for producing content for Takei’s Facebook Page.

The email uncovers the fact that George Takei’s posts on Facebook is not necessarily his own, though its posted in first person, as if it’s coming from the actor himself.

Polito apologized to George and his husband, Brad, for the unintended revelation. He told readers of Romenesko’s blog that he “had no direct contact with George.” He added, "I’ve sent him some memes, as have other comedian types and I was happy for the exposure."

In Polito’s emails, he said that some of the jokes he has sent to George that were posted on his page gets up to 10 likes per second for hours.

George Takei has more than 4.1 million fans on Facebook and one of his recent posts featuring a picture of Patrick Stewart has received more than 190,000 likes.

The social media sensation posts memes, pictures, and personal updates on his page. In a report last year by Jeremy Cabalona of Mashable, many of George’s posts are submitted by fans.

The actor who is currently part of a musical is regularly billed as one of the most followed celebrities on social media.
