NASCAR Driver Jason Leffler Dies In Car Race Accident: Single Father Leaves Behind 5-Year-Old Son

NASCAR driver and single father Jason Leffler died Wednesday night due to an accident in a heat race, dirt car event at Bridgeport Speedway, reported Daily Jeff.

"NASCAR extends its thoughts, prayers and deepest sympathies to the family of Jason Leffler who passed away earlier this evening," said an official NASCAR statement.

"For more than a decade, Jason was a fierce competitor in our sport and he will be missed."

According to Daily Jeff, 37-year-old Leffler was a two-time NASCAR Nationwide Series winner and pronounced dead after 9pm.

Leffler is survived by 5-year-old son Charlie Dean.

"Really sad for Jason Leffler and his family," tweeted NASCAR Sprint Cup champion Brad Keselowski.

"Thinking about his little boy."

Leffler himself never made it at the NASCAR Sprint Cup level, and lost his NASCAR ride after 2011 before racing dirt car events most of this year. He was sixth in the standings during the 2011 Nationwide schedule for Turner Motorsports.

On Sunday, Leffler finished last at Pocono in his only NASCAR Sprint Cup start of the year.

"Praying for all of Jason Leffler family, especially his little guy Charlie," tweeted IndyCar driver Ed Carpenter.
