George Takei's Facebook Page A Group Effort: Takei's Husband And Interns Ghostwrite For 'Star Trek' Social Media Star

George Takei's Facebook fans got hit with the reveal that the 76-year-old's Facebook page is not entirely written by the "Star Trek" star himself.

According to International Business Times, blogger Jim Romensko accidently revealed that many of the jokes on Takei's page were actually written by comedian/journalist Rick Polito. Polito has since apologized for leaking the tidbit.

"I wrote an apology to George and Brad and their guy said he'd pass it on. I just said that I'd been looking for any mention of my book I could get and that I hadn't meant to expose anything," said Polito to Romensko yesterday.

"I don't update his page. I've had no direct contact with George. I've sent him some memes, as have other comedian types and I was happy for the exposure. The other update is that no job offers are flying into my inbox."

Since Buzzfeed published the story, fans have reacted negatively to this knowledge, though this has not dampened Takei's spirit.

"What is this hoo-ha about my FB posts?" Takei wrote to Wired. "I have Brad, my husband, to help me and interns to assist. What is important is the reliability of my posts being there to greet my fans with a smile or a giggle every morning. That's how we keep on growing."

"The commentaries are mine. They are authentically mine, I assure you."

With over 4 million followers and posts that go instantly viral every day, the scandal may not matter much in the long run.

"Ultimately, the George Takei Facebook page is George Takei to Facebookers, and that's probably all that matters," wrote one Inquisitr writer.
