Watch a glimpse of the trailer here:

Naomi Watts will play Princess Diana when she began experiencing happiness and romance throughout the last years of her life, all while in the spotlight.

The film also chronicles Princess Diana's growing love affair with heart surgeon Doctor Hasnat Khan, played by "Lost" actor Naveen Andrews, and her experiences working to promote charities and philanthropic causes.

The film will also be based on her work with the Red Cross to fight against landmines in Africa and her life after splitting form Prince Charles.

"We're here to tell a love story and it's very tragic. There's nothing sordid about the story we tell in the film," said Robert Bernstein who produced the movie with Douglas Rae, according to the Daily Mail.

"We're not here for sensationalism or titillation, we just try to look at her relationship with Dr Hasnat Khan a man who may have been the love of her life. We believe that she wanted to marry him."

Naomi Watts will reenact scenes of Princess Diana being chased down by paparazzi while shopping and the limousine ride prior to her death in Paris in 1997.

The film was screened for foreign distributors at a private event during the Cannes Film Festival, according to the Daily Mail.
