Miami Restaurant Patio Collapses, Sinks 100 Patrons Into Biscayne Bay: 2 Remain Missing

What began as a cheer for Miami Heat ended in tragedy Thursday night when 100 people sank into Biscayne Bay after the patio of a Miami restaurant collapsed as the group got up for the cheer.

"We heard a crunch, crunch, crunch, and then we saw the pillars went down one by one," said witness Anthony Herrera to local WPLG station.

"Everything went lower and lower..." shuddered Cesar Cabana, one of the victims who went into the water.

According to WCTV, of the 100 people who fell into the water at Shuckers Bar & Grill at 1819 79th Street Causeway, 24 were treated for minor injuries while 3 are currently in critical condition.

Two people, according to The Coast Guard, are still unaccounted for.

CBS4's Brian Andrews reported that after the deck collapse, the Coast Guard as well as divers were called to the site to look for victims in the water. The search has since been called off due to unreliable reports.

During the rescue, roads were shut down in both directions by the restaurant with dozens of emergency vehicles on the scene.

According to Reuters, the collapse occurred around 9:45pm, and the injured victims were taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital.

The event occurred during a game between Miami Heat against the San Antonio Spurs, just before halftime, when the cheers ended in screams.
