Cocaine Found Stashed In Banana Boxes: Both Energy Boosters, But Not Exactly The Shipment Danish Supermarket Ordered

Colombian bananas full of cocaine were found in a Danish supermarket last week.

The supermarket workers got a surprise in the banana boxes that perked their day right up. Employees at the Danish supermarket chain Coop found about 220 pounds of cocaine in banana boxes.

The employees noticed that some of the banana boxes were particularly heavy. Hmmm. And upon opening them, they found lots and lots of white powder.

The substance hasn't been confirmed to be cocaine yet, but, well, it's bricks of white powder from Colombia that weren't supposed to be there. So. Just saying.

Jens Juul, a Coop spokesman, said they have contacted its Colombian supplier.

And it happened again this week. Juul told press that "more bags with white powder were found Wednesday in a separate shipment from Colombia at a central dispatch facility in suburban Copenhagen."

Ooops. Somebody's getting shot in the knee. Apparently, using banana boxes to smuggle cocaine to Europe is relatively routine. In 2011, around 150 pounds of the coke were found stashed in banana boxes headed to Helsingborg, Sweden. That cache was worth about $10 to $12 million.

And in February, cocaine was found in banana boxes in several storage warehouses belonging to Colruyt, one of Belgium's major supermarket chains.
