Yena explained the song is her expressing her cute jealousy and that the word "Hate" is her way of maximizing her feelings for admiration for Olivia Rodrigo.
Here's what Yena said:
"The song "Hate Rodrigo" voices out my cute jealousy for my star, the one who I admire and respect in my own way, without hate. It has interesting lyrics and melodies that are rock-inspired, and it's special because I sang it with my best friend Yuqi of (G)I-DLE."
"It expresses various emotions regarding the longing of something of someone I admire and is jealous of."
"With that in mind, I decided to use irony to declare my long-lasting affection for that person through its lyrics and my performances."
