Sandra Bullock Changes Her Mind And May Take On Mean Role As Miss Hannigan In African-American Remake Of ‘Annie’

Sandra Bullock may no longer want to portray America's sweetheart. Bullock, who originally rejected the offer of playing Miss Hannigan, is in early discussions to star in a remake of "Annie," produced by Will Smith and Jay-Z.

Miss Hannigan is the evil headmistress of the orphanage where Annie and her friends live. Carol Burnett played the role in the original 1982 film, Reuters reports. For the remake, Sony was looking for an actress who could put a comedic spin on the character as well as have international appeal.

Quvenzhané Wallis from "Beats of the Southern Wild" will play Annie, and Jamie Foxx will star as Benjamin Stacks, an NYC mayoral candidate - a variation of the Daddy Warbucks characters from the original storyline.

According to TheWrap, Bullock originally passed on the role when it was offered to her. Now, the Oscar-winning actress is back at the negotiating table. The actress is currently traveling across Europe and numerous media sources could not reach her reps for a comment.

The role of Annie in the musical was originally supposed to be played by Smith's daughter, Willow. When she decided not to take on the role, Wallis was cast instead.

According to Reuters, the "Annie" remake is targeting an African-American audience, with a mostly African-American cast and producers. Bullock is familiar with this audience, as her 2009 film "The Blind Side," which had a storyline that centered around an African-American football player dealing with racism, grossed $225 million in the U.S.

"Annie" is expected to start production this fall and will hit theaters on Christmas Day 2014.

Bullock will also star in a few other movies this year, including "The Heat," which opens June 28, and "Gravity," which will release on October 4.
