Arnold Schwarzenegger 'Terminator 5' Confirmation: 5 Gifs To Celebrate Original Terminator's Return

Arnold Schwarzenegger has confirmed he'll reprise his role as "The Terminator" in the fifth installment in the Terminator series.

The 66-year-old actor announced he'll star in Terminator 5, set to start filming in January 2014, so we thought we'd share 5 of our favorite scenes with Arnold playing the Terminator, the role that made him an action movie icon.

The former California governor and scandal-ridden ex-husband to Pam Shriver, announced yesterday during the 21st Century Financial Education Summit, that he would reprise his role as Terminator.

So far, there isn't very much information about the film, but we do know now that Mr. Schwarzenegger, the muscle-bound Terminator from the 1980s and 1990s megahits will return.

We do know the James Cameron characters will come back, and that screenwriters, Laeta Kalogridis and Patrick Lussier will pen the new project, which will begin filming in January 2014.

So to celebrate Schwarzenegger's return for Terminator 5, here are 5 gifs of his most iconic moments in the first four Terminators, even the cameo in the last film: the Christian Bale feature: Terminator Salvation.

1) The first Terminator from writer/director, James Cameron, terrified audiences when it was released back in 1984. But the special effects leave a lot to be desired for contemporary fans.

Regardless, the film set in motion the Terminator franchise that movie goers have enjoyed in the decades since and it introduced us to the iconic Arnold Terminator style: sunglasses and motorcycle, and a little lady named Sarah Connor, who would go to become one of the strongest female heroines ever to grace the silver screen.

2, 3, 4) But where Arnold Schwarzenegger, and to a large degree James Cameron, really made it in Hollywood and beyond, was with the follow-up to the original Terminator: Terminator 2: Judgement Day.

There are so many great scenes, but we decided to give you three of them:

The iconic "Hasta La Vista, Baby" scene:

The end scene where he kills himself in the molten fire while giving John Connor a thumbs up:

And the scene where Arnold shows the developer of the technology that destroys the world and allows the machines to take over that he's a cyborg, by cutting away his arm to show the metallic structure underneath:

5) Then came Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines, the first not directed by Cameron, which made it just OK. The cast of the first two films was replaced and audiences were left feeling meh on the whole thing.

But it did feature Schwarzenegger back as the good guy Terminator, and he does carry a coffin full of ammunition and fight off the police:

And one bonus Schwarzenegger clip features the CGI Schwarzenegger used in Terminator Salvation:

Welcome back Arnold. We missed you.
