Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie Release Date In October For Android Anniversary: Key Lime Pie To Support Low-End Smartphones

Google's Android 5.0 release date will be sometime in October, according to a new report.

Google will allegedly release Android 5.0, nicknamed Key Lime Pie, "sometime in late October," according to anonymous sources of VR-Zone.

The Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie operating system will be optimized for all devices and even low-end smartphones, surprising many in the tech world. According to VR-Zone's report, Android 5.0 will even run well on devices with 512 MB or RAM.

The Inquirer suggests that this marks Google's attempt to handle Android fragmentation by taking advice from Apple, who will release iOS 7 to the iPhone 5, iPhone 4S and iPhone 4.

Many Android users were surprised that the Key Lime Pie operating system wasn't revealed at Google's I/O conference.

Google has not yet confirmed the October release date for Android 5.0. However, other signs suggest that this rumor is valid.

October marks the fifth anniversary of Android, so launching 5.0 Key Lime Pie is appropriate.

The launch of Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie will also coincide with the revealing of the Motorola X smartphone, which is expected to launch with "advanced sensors" to make the smartphone "aware of what's going on around it," according to VR-Zone. In addition a new Nexus Smartphone is due for release around the same time, adding fuel to the reported October release date.

Google is expected to release an Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update in late August just ahead of the 5.0 Key Lime Pie release.

Android 4.3 Jelly Bean is expected to support low-energy Bluetooth connectivity and Open GL 3D graphics.
