Daughter of Crocodile Hunter, Bindi Irwin, Latest in Internet Death Hoax

Thanks to promotions for a new Lifetime movie and old press clippings about the late Crocodile Hunter, the Internet briefly killed Bindi Irwin.

 Friday, a vicious rumor started on the social media site Twitter regarding Bindi Irwin, the 14-year-old daughter of late "Crocodile Hunter" Steve Irwin. Tweets abounded on the 14-year-old's demise after it appeared the phrase, "Steve Irwin daughter dies," was trending on the Web.

It was rumored that the Australian teen had died on Twitter Friday, and shortly after "Steve Irwin daughter dies" shot all the way to No. 4 on MSN's list of hot search terms, according to Social News Daily.

The recent interest in Bindi is believed to be because of her role in the new movie, Return From Nim Island, combined with people searching for her as "Steve Irwin's daughter" and added to the fact that Irwin died in 2006, just happened to make for a perfect storm that resulted in the rumor.

Meanwhile, just a few days before the rumor  started, Bindi tweeted out a link to an interview she gave on a recent trip to Hong Kong, writing, "I had such a wonderful time there."
