Golfer Billy Horschel Loves Octopus Pants, 'Twilight' Novels, And Bigfoot

Billy Horschel wore an interesting pair of Octopus-print pants to Sunday's final round at the U.S. Open. The fashion statement shouldn't come as a shock to those who know Horschel, as well as the history of bad golf pants.

Horschel is a former University of Florida golfer. He teed off in eighth place at 3-over, four strokes behind final-round leader Phil Mickelson, the Associated Press reports.

While Mickelson wore a no-nonsense all-black outfit, Horschel decided to go down a different route. He wore navy and white pants with giant squids patterns, and matched them with a magenta polo shirt, all designed by Ralph Lauren.

But those who know Horschel know that he's not your average guy. According to his PGA Tour bio, he read the "Twilight" series - four young-adult vampire romance novels - in just two weeks, and is "a believer in Bigfoot and UFOs."

Before Horschel headed over to the course, he tweeted a picture of himself in his outfit, with the caption: "Well here they are! The highly anticipated highly controversial....Octopus pants!"

Last Wednesday, Billy Horschel tweeted a photo of the four outfit ideas for the U.S. Open, USA Today Sports reports. The other outfits ranged from bright plaid pants to boldly striped polos. But it seems Horschel wanted to go all the way with his ensemble.

Professional golfers are known for showing up in interesting slacks. Englishman Ian Poulter has worn pants with the same pattern as the English flag, and Rickie Fowler wears bold colors, usually from head to toe, the Associated Press reports.

According to USA Today Sports, Horschel's statement-making pants can be bought for $100 on the Ralph Lauren website.
