Rapper Jay-Z announced the release date of his album Magna Carta Holy Grail, his first solo studio album in four years. The solo LP will hit stores July 4.

Before fans have heard a single song, the album has already gone platinum. This is because Samsung has bought one million copies of Magna Carta and has arranged to give them to users of the Samsung Galaxy III, Galaxy S4 and Galaxy Note II for free, three days before the LP drops, MTV News reports. Samsung reportedly paid $5 apiece for the albums, perhaps in an effort to boost sales of Galaxy smartphones and tablets.

The Samsung mobile app for the album will be available for download on June 24.

Jay-Z made the announcement during a three-minute commercial for Magna Carta at the start of half-time of the NBA Finals game 5 between the Miami Heat and San Antonio Spurs. Fans went wild after the commercial and the #magnacartaholygrail hashtag was trending, MTV News reports.

Twitter user @cruzerrr308 wrote: "Damn this new HOV album got me pumped!"

@SamGunnion tweeted: "This Jay-Z/Samsung thing is such a cool way to release and promote an album."

The commercial featured Jay-Z in the studio collaborating on a song with producers Rick Rubin, Swizz Beatz, Timbaland and Pharrell Williams.

Jay-Z muses about his album and the changing music industry to the producers, while they listen to different piano tunes and Jay-Z freestyles over the beats.

'It's about this duality of, how do you navigate your way through this whole thing, through success, through failure, through all of this, and remain yourself?' the rapper says. 

'We don't have any rules, everybody is trying to figure it out,' he adds. 'That's why the internet is like the Wild West. We need to write the new rules.'

Jay-Z's last solo album, The Blueprint 3, came out in 2009. It reached the number one spot in the U.S. and sold more than two million copies.

The news of Jay-Z's album comes just two days before Jay's collaborator and friend Kanye West will release his album Yeezus.
