In a recent social media frenzy, netizens have raised questions about YG Entertainment's alleged attempt to emulate HYBE and ADOR's NewJeans with their new girl group known as "OldPants."
The @oldpants_official account on social media has quickly amassed over 40,000 followers, but it didn't take long for sharp-eyed fans to notice striking resemblances between OldPants and NewJeans.
A Closer Look at the Alleged Copycat Group
The group's name appeared to be a deliberate antonym of NewJeans, and their logo bore an uncanny resemblance, featuring a bunny motif.
The similarities between OldPants and NewJeans raised eyebrows in the K-Pop community. Twitter users were quick to share their observations, with some comparing OldPants to NewJeans and even BLACKPINK, citing similarities in member names like Jinie, Rosa, Lida, and Jiwoo, reminiscent of Jennie, Rosé, Lisa, and Jisoo, respectively.
OldPants, which currently has an active Instagram account, appeared to be affiliated with YG Entertainment, as indicated by the "yg" in its handle.

This led netizens to speculate whether YG was attempting to capitalize on the success of two of K-Pop's most iconic girl groups. Adding to the intrigue, OldPants used hashtags like #HYBE on its videos, further fueling suspicions of imitation.
However, some netizens uncovered yet another layer to this puzzle when they realized that OldPants wasn't just copying NewJeans and BLACKPINK, but also ON1 Entertainment's upcoming girl group, tentatively known as ON1 Rookies.
Netizens' comments:
- "yg official?? are they setting up yg or are they under yg"
- "how dare you not know oldpants? theyre literally the best kpop group to exist "
- "IS THIS REAL??? THEIR IG TOO????"
- "don't give them attention"
- "new jeans? who's that?? all we know is oldpants, yk the famous kpop group/s"
- "don't give them attention"
The shared content was traced back to ON1 Entertainment's members, including Sazuka, Yura, Jiyeon, Hadam, Subin, and an unrevealed member.

In a twist, the TikTok account that had gone viral under the OldPants name has undergone a rebranding, with changes to its handle, profile, display name, and content.
