Chicago Shootings Rack City Over a Violent Weekend; Eight More Shot Monday

Chicago shootings shocked the city over the past few days in a weekend of bloody violence. Eight people were shot throughout the city Monday afternoon and evening. A 17-year-old boy was critical injured.

The most recent Chicago shooting occurred at about 9:55 p.m. in the Little Village neighborhood. Police said a male suffered graze wounds to both legs after he was shot. The man is being treated at Mount Sinai. Police officials said that the authorities had few details on the circumstances surrounding the shooting.

Police and fire officials say the shooting that critically wounded the teen happened in the 800 block of North Leamington Avenue, in the West Side Austin neighborhood about 7:45 p.m. News Affairs Officer Veejay Zala said the boy was shot in the abdomen. Fire Media Affairs spokesman Juan Hernandez said the teen was taken by paramedics to Stroger Hospital.

Two men were wounded in a drive-by shooting at around 9:30 p.m. at the 7300 block of South Woodlawn Avenue in the South Side Kenwood neighborhood, police said. Someone opened fire from inside a light-colored sedan as the men were standing outside. A 21 year old man was shot in the right calf. He is in “stable” condition at Northwestern Memorial Hospital. A 22-year old man was shot in the right thigh, left ankle and the left hand. The man is in “stable” condition and is being treated at John H. Stroger Hospital of Cook County.

An 18 year old woman was hit in the backside by a bullet during a drive-by shooting in the 9700 block of South LaSalle Street in the Roseland neighborhood just before 8 p.m. The woman is being treated at Stroger Hospital.

Police said Another teenager was shot in the 200 block of West 118th Street in the Pullman neighborhood on the Far South Side at about 2:45 p.m. The 17-year-old boy is being trated at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn. He is in “stable condition.”

According to published reports at least 33 people were shot between Saturday afternoon through Father's Day Sunday. Six of the victims have been reported dead, The incidents occurred from 94th Street and Loomis Avenue on the South Side up to about North Avenue and North Pulaski Road on the Northwest Side. The youngest person who was killed was 16.
