Starbucks: 300 Calories In A Caramel Frappuccino? Calorie Counts Coming To U.S. Menus

Do you know how many calories are you in your Starbucks drink? Soon you won't have to guess, because the nutrition information of each beverage will be posted on U.S. menus.

Starbucks, the outrageously popular Seattle-based coffee chain, will post calorie counts on their menu boards ahead of a federal regulation that would require it to do so, ABC News reports.

Did you know there are 300 calories in Starbucks' small caramel Frappuccino and 230 calories in a small Iced Caffe Mocha? Or that Mornings Buns have 350 calories and the Blueberry Scones have 460 calories?

Since 2% milk is the "standard" used to make Starbucks beverages, that's what the posted calorie counts will be based on, says spokeswoman Lisa Passe, USA Today reports. Each beverage is fully customizable, she says, so consumers can save calories with non-fat milk, sugar-free syrup, or passing on whipped cream.

"Menu labeling is yet another step to extend our commitment to wellness," says Mary Wagner, senior vice president of global research and development at Starbucks.

Pastry cases will also have the calories counts posted.

Calorie counts on menus are already required in some parts of the United States, including New York City.

On June 25, Starbucks Corp. says the nutritional information will be available to customers in more than 11,000 U.S. locations. The company notes that the information is already available on its website, iPhone app, and printed brochures in cafes.

Major chains like McDonald's, Panera Bread and Au Bon Pan already post calories on their menu boards, ahead of the FDA releasing its final guidelines on the issue. The FDA will most likely make the regulations take effect by next year, ABC News reports.
