Elbert Guillory Switches To Republican Party [VIDEO]: Idea Of Blacks Needing Government To Get Ahead Is ‘Despicable,’ Louisiana State Senator Says

Louisiana State Senator Elbert Guillory (R-Opelousas), who recently switched from the Democratic Party to the Republican Party, said the idea of blacks needing government to get ahead is "despicable."

Watch a video of his recent proclamation here:

Throughout his video, Elbert Guillory explains the history of the Republican Party, which was founded as an Abolitionist Movement in 1854, and mentions the betrayal of the Democrats within the struggle of civil rights for the black community.

"You see, in recent history, the Democrat Party has created the illusion that their agenda and their policies are what's best for black people. Somehow it's been forgotten that the Republican Party was founded in 1854 as an abolitionist movement with one simple creed: that slavery is a violation of the rights of man," Elbert Guillory says in his video.

"But the left is only concerned with one thing - control. And they disguise this control as charity. Programs such as welfare, food stamps, these programs aren't designed to lift black Americans out of poverty, they were always intended as a mechanism for politicians to control the black community."

Political analysts say Elbert Guillory posted the video, which was uploaded on Sunday, to band aid his decision to switch from the Democratic Party to the Republican Party and to avoid criticism from his former constituents.

Many say he also posted the video as a response to heightened attention to President Barack Obama's administration, the increasing role of central government and controversy surrounding the National Security Agency and Edward Snowden.

"The idea that blacks, or anyone for that matter, need the government to get ahead in life is despicable. And even more important, this idea is a failure," Elbert Guillory says.
