Fans defended THIS third-gen K-pop idol from plagiarism accusations after the artist's upcoming release bore similarities to BTS J-Hope's "Jack In The Box."
Here's what happened.
GOT7 Yugyeom Accused of Plagiarizing BTS J-Hope's 'Jack In The Box,' Ahgases Defend Idol from Harsh Claims
Yugyeom is now preparing for a comeback, but the idol has met criticism from netizens.
On February 1, the GOT7 maknae teased Ahgases with the various versions of his upcoming first full-length album "Trust Me," which will be released on February 21.
While many fans were thrilled for his new content, other netizens drew negative reactions on his earlier post.
Prior to Yugyeom's reveal of the album's versions, the idol had shared the tracklist of "Trust Me," which drew out negative reactions for some netizens due to its similarities to one of J-Hope's photos for "Jack In The Box."
Netizens pointed out that Yugyeom's second tracklist image resembled J-Hope's Jack-in-the-box toy concept, colored background, album title font, and clown hat.
Aside from Yugyeom's post, the issue also reached on X (Twitter), where some netters also expressed the same take. Read their comments below on his post and X below:
- "Well done, you're amazing at copying and stealing J-Hope's effort in his album.
- "I wish you could put in the effort to be creative in your album, but you thought it would be easier to steal another artist's design."
- "You need to put in more effort and not just rely on theft."
- "Don't be that obvious."
- "Originality left the chat."
- "J-Hope, you're the standard."
- "Cheap copy of 'Jack in the Box.' Embarrassing."
- "You're a copycat. If you want something, go and make your own concept. Stop copying others."
However, fans defended the idol from the negative remarks and plagiarism accusations. They also called out netizens for bashing Yugyeom over a similar-looking hat, while others reminded them of the good relationship BTS and GOT7 have with each other.
- "Hobi's was edgy while Yugyeom's was cute. Decoration? The green colour is for igot7 and i don't remember Hobi using inflatables."
- "It's a hat and he is not copying anyone. You're making a big deal for nothing."
- "It's just a hat. He is free to wear whatever he wants, and it doesn't mean that it's a copy."
- "GOT7 and BTS goes a long way back and Hobi considers Yugyeom as an adorable junior/brother."
