While other rookies go viral for their skills and visuals, THIS "underrated" idol is drawing attention for unique promotion by utilizing SNS challenges. What it is about that even senior idols are doing it with him?
While there are opinions that the so-called "dance challenge" culture in K-pop lost its spirit and is now merely done for promotion and marketing, a rookie idol is bringing back its fun by doing THIS.
DXMON Jo Becomes Hot Topic for 'Sunshine' Challenge
Earlier, the rookie boy group DXMON (Daimon) initially attracted attention for their unconventional hairstyles that reminded K-pop fans of the 2nd-gen era.
Flaunting bright red urchin-shaped hair, its member Jo brought nostalgic emotions to fans when the "Hallyu" wave was not prominent globally yet.
While it can attract attention as a rookie, this strategy alone is not easy to maintain the interest of fans for a long time. Therefore, DXMON decided to utilize the challenge strategy.
On Instagram, the group created a so-called "Sunshine/Burn Up" challenge, which is now gaining millions of views from internet users and fans.
In particular, the so-called, "Sunshine/Burn Up" challenge isn't strictly a dance challenge, but it showcased fun interaction between Jo and other K-pop idols.
Adopting Jo's hairstyle that resembles the sunbeam, a challenger would lip-sync while in the rhythm with the title track, "Burn Up." When the lyrics are mentioned, Jo will come out like the sun in the video.
Regarding this, DXMON explained:
"The 'Sunshine Challenge' was designed to give a rising impression as we debuted in a new year. We came up with the idea of a challenge that would make it easier and more powerful to the public."
As of writing, several senior singers joined the challenge including Kim Jong Kook, Ha Ha, Jessi, 2NE1 Sandara, Apink Yoon Bomi, BTOB Lee Chang Sub, SISTAR19 Bora & Hyolyn, PENTAGON Hui, (G)I-DLE Miyeon, P1Harmony Theo, ZEROBASEONE Hanbin, RIIZE Sungchan, VANNER Taehwan, CIX Bae Jinyoung, Woo-ah Nana and more.
Regarding this, Jo expressed his emotions for going viral and said:
"The seniors laughed a lot. Some said it was amazing. Senior Sandara Park also gave some advice, saying, 'You can't lean on anything for fear of damaging my hair, and it will take a very long time to wash my hair after work, so cheer up.' I won the challenge. Many seniors were worried about the timing before I appeared in the challenge. It felt good to show off their unique style.”
Who Is DXMON?
Meanwhile, DXMON is a six-member boy group under SSQ Entertainment that debuted on January 17. The group consists of Gen Z members including Minjae, Seita, TK, Hee, Rex and Jo.
Upon their debut, they received attention with their exceptional styling and among them, Jo, the youngest born in 2008, attracted attention with his hairstyle reminding people of the sea urchin hairstyle that Choi Changmin did when he was promoting Tri-Angle in 2004. He even dyed his hair red, which made his hair stand out even more.
