Is (G)I-DLE ‘Revenge’ MV About Soojin Bullying Scandal? Fans Gather ‘Proof’

Following the release of (G)I-DLE's music video for "Revenge," Neverlands gathered evidence to "prove" there are references to former member Soojin's bullying scandal. Keep on reading for all the details.

Is (G)I-DLE 'Revenge' MV About Soojin Bullying Scandal?

On February 15, 2024, (G)I-DLE released the music video for "Revenge." The music video follows the story of a woman in an abusive relationship (played by Shuhua). After she gets attacked, she fights back.

The other members help her with the murder and hide the evidence, indicating that Shuhua has gotten her revenge.

Each member has a different persona in the music video.

Following the music video's release, people believe "Revenge" is actually a nod to Soojin's bullying scandal. Several scenes indicate that this might be so.

The music video starts with a fire in a building, which fans take to represent the group's album, "I BURN." This is notably the last album Soojin was part of before her hiatus and eventual withdrawal from the group.

Quick-eyed fans also noticed that there were six fingerprints seen on the scene, despite there only being five members.

A document also makes use of the date April 4, 2021. This is Soojin's birthday, and April 4, 2021, is the last time (G)I-DLE's social media accounts ever mentioned Soojin. At the time, the company wished the idol a happy birthday.

Many have theorized that each member plays the persona of Soojin throughout the bullying scandal.

Minnie, dressed in fancy clothes and looking polished, is Soojin's idol mage. Yuqi, who is seen more mad and enraged, is Soojin trying to fight the allegations made against her.

Miyeon, who portrayed a detective in the series, represents the investigation that was ongoing at the time. Soyeon, who played a cleaner, is Soojin trying to clean her image despite the false allegations.

Lastly, Shuhua plays two roles in the music video: the abused and an investigator. This shows Soojin's true self: the one who was wronged and the one trying to make things right.

It is unknown if this was the true meaning of the music video. However, it is known the members of (G)I-DLE have complete control over their work now, so it is not farfetched to assume they wanted to honor their missing member in this music video.

Former (G)I-DLE Soojin's Bullying Scandal

In February 2021, (G)I-DLE's Soojin became embroiled in a bullying scandal when a former classmate accused her of bullying during their school years.

The accuser alleged instances of physical violence, manipulation, and spreading false rumors. They also claimed she was a thug who drank and smoked underage and consistently hung out with the wrong crowd.

Soojin denied the allegations, stating that she had apologized to the accuser for any misunderstandings in the past. However, she confessed to smoking underage to try it out. Sadly, the backlash controversy led to Soojin taking a hiatus from (G)I-DLE activities and ultimately departing from the group in August 2021.
