BLACKPINK Jennie Turns Down Offer for Upcoming Variety Show 'My Name is Gabriel,' BLINKs Thrilled for Idol's Solo Music
On March 19, Korean news outlets reported that Jennie had turned down an offer to star in a new variety show titled, "My Name is Gabriel." According to a source from JTBC, it was confirmed that Jennie would not be appearing on the program.
"Jennie will not appear on 'My Name is Gabriel,'" the JTBC source stated.
On the same day (March 19), Jennie's independent label ODD ATELIER released a brief statement addressing the information. "The offer was received, but (Jennie) turned it down. Jennie won't be appearing on variety shows for the time being," ODD ATELIER shared.
The brand new JTBC show "My Name is Gabriel" will be helmed by produced PD Kim Tae Ho, who is known for producing MBC's "Infinite Challenge."
The show will also include well-known stars such as Park Bo Gum, Ji Chang Wook, Yeom Hye Ran, Park Myung Soo, and Hong Jin Kyung as cast.
"My Name is Gabriel" is also slated to premiere in June. With Jennie making headlines due to her appearance at the variety show "Apartment 404," the idol is currently showcasing more of her sides ever since leaving YG Entertainment and establishing her own company.
While some were sad upon learning of Jennie's rejection of the offer, most were filled with excitement and claimed that the idol had dropped all endeavors to focus on her music.
Some claimed that the hectic activities and "low" ratings of "Apartment 404" conflicted with her album preparations. Read their comments below:
- "Jennie has a powerful yet unique voice that stands out a lot in my opinion, plus her pronunciations are really clear too, so I am genuinely excited for her album."
- "I hope it means she's focusing on her full album currently."
- "Pretty sure it's because of her variety show isn't doing that well honestly. If it's a hit, she's probably going to do it again."
- "That's the same with her previous acting career as well. So, she may have realized she should just focus on music and fashion at the moment."
- "The show description did require the cast to travel a lot, so this only means she's fully focused on the album, jnk1 coming!"
- "Since she's working on her album and going back and forth between Korea and America, it could be hard to film a show."
