After securing their first music show win on "The Show," ILLIT is suddenly drawing mixed reviews for their vocal abilities during their encore stage.
ILLIT made their explosive debut on the K-pop scene with "Magnetic" on March 25, 2024. Since then, the five-member girl group has been actively promoting their debut mini-album, "Super Real Me." They collaborate with idols on dance challenges, make variety show appearances, and, of course, perform on music programs.
Their monumental debut has earned them their first win, but they have sadly received backlash.
ILLIT Scores First Music Show Trophy on 'The Show'
On April 2, 2024, ILLIT secured their first music show win for "Magnetic" on "The Show." The girl group was up against UNIS's "SUPERWOMAN" and YOUNG POSSE's "XXL." With 6,904 points, they rose above and took home the trophy.
Other people who performed on that day's broadcast include Lucas (formerly of NCT and WayV), Purple Kiss, The New Six, Tan, AMPERS&ONE, Leni.M (formerly known as Seungho from MBLAQ), Candy Shop, BAE173, n.SSign, LUN8, XODIAC, Minseo, and Jung Dong Ho.
ILLIT Garners Backlash For Live Vocals Skills During 'The Show' Encore Stage
Following their win, a post titled 'ILLIT's #1 'Magnetic' encore on 'The Show'" was uploaded to the popular South Korean online community forum TheQoo.
The original poster (OP) did not include any words in their post. Instead, they only shared a video of their encore stage as well as a photo of ILLIT posing with their trophy.
However, Korean netizens took to the comment section to complain about the girls' live vocal abilities. Many noted that the members sounded tone deaf and appeared to have difficulty singing their own songs.
The criticism was especially directed at the group's Japanese members, Iroha and Moka, saying they did not sound good at all.
However, Minju and Yunah were praised for their nice vocal colors.
It was noted that idols under HYBE Labels have repeatedly garnered backlash for their live vocal ability. Back in March, LE SSERAFIM was slammed for their "EASY" encore stages, with people saying they were unstable and shaky.
Korean netizens are saying the company needs to invest more in their idol's vocal ability, as it is a bad thing that their artists are known for their horrible singing.
Some comments read:
- "Wow, it was appalling."
- "Minju did well. She has a nice vocal color and is charming. On the other hand, Moka has the same goat-like singing as Sakura. Is this a Japanese thing?"
- "We really need to start segregating idols from singers."
- "LE SSERAFIM had the same issue. Why is HYBE's level so low?"
- "The song doesn't even sound hard to sing, though?"
- "Every time a group has a live singing scandal, it's always from HYBE."
- "Minju has a nice vocal color."
- "They are all tone deaf; it was so bad. What did I just watch?"
- "Minju and Yunah were good, but all the others..."
- "HYBE doesn't let their idols have a single singing lesson."
- "The Japanese members are so bad."
