iPad 5, iPad Mini 2 Release Date: Tablets Rumored To Feature High Resolution Displays Manufactured By Samsung, Expected To Be Released Late 2013

Apple and Samsung are major rivals when it comes to electronic gadgets, but the two tech giants are slated to collaborate on the iPad 5 and iPad Mini 2.

According to a report by the International Business Times, the next iPad Mini, which could be called iPad Mini 2 Retina or iPad Mini Retina, as well as the highly rumored iPad 5 will feature high-resolution displays.

Gotta Be Mobile reports that these displays will be manufactured by Samsung with a 2080 x 1536 resolution and a 7.9-inch screen.

The iPad 5 and iPad Mini 2 is reported to be scheduled for release later this year. It is uncertain if Samsung will also release its own line of devices, although there have been reports that the South Korean company responsible for Samsung Galaxy Note 2 will release another phablet this year.

Aside from the screen size of the new iPads, other features that have been leaked include a slightly altered camera for the iPad Mini. Heavy.com says that it may have a thicker case because of the retina display feature. The smaller iPad may also have an A6X processor to support the IGZO screen, although others have rumored that it will have an A7 processor.

A 10-hour battery life could also be expected from iPad Mini 2.

Inferring from an image leaked by Gadgets NDTV, which was reported by the Business Times, the iPad 5 may have a thinner bezel, an altered camera and a rear microphone at the top back portion of the device.

The Business Times also noted that with the release of the overhauled iOS 7, Apple is setting its sights to the world of gaming, with the iPad 5 and iPad Mini 2 as instruments to its foray in the $67 billion market.

The iOS 7’s newest gaming feature and software for developers is an early sign of the company’s intent to gain a foothold in the gaming industry.

Apple’s technology shifting towards gaming could pose a significant threat to companies like Sony and Microsoft. Just as Xbox One offers entertainment, gaming and more in one console, Apple may introduce a fully integrated gaming system that will cater to its cult following.
