NewJeans Seeks Help From US Federal Court To Y Uncover Identity & Sue Malicious YouTuber
On April 10, the New York Times released a report disclosing that NewJeans had sought assistance from a federal court in the United States to uncover the real identity of a malicious YouTube content creator.
According to sources, NewJeans' agency ADOR had requested the help of platform Google to expose the person behind the YouTube channel called @Middle7.
It then revealed that during the filing, the YouTube channel was accused of producing remarks containing defamation, which were directed to NewJeans.
NewJeans' lawyer and representative for the case, Eugene Kim, shared that "name-calling and mocking behavior" were present in the YouTube account. It also claimed that the content had inflicted "significant reputational damage" to the group.
The report then shared that the court filing was made on March 27, and if NewJeans' side was to be favored by the court, it would be possible for the group to sue the YouTuber in South Korea for defamation and insult, which are both punishable by crime in the country.
ADOR let out a brief statement regarding the filing, stating its resolve to protect its artist from any harmful posts and intent. "We regularly take legal action against the violations of our artists' rights," ADOR shared.
Initially, the company already filed a complaint against the YouTube account in Seoul, but despite its efforts, the case couldn't proceed since the account's details were anonymous. This led ADOR to request assistance from a US federal court to help identify the suspect.
Here's how netizens reacted on social media platform X (Twitter):
