Jeonghan, Joy Draw Mixed Reactions for Doing 'Magnetic' Challenge — But Why?

SEVENTEEN Jeonghan and Red Velvet Joy's respective entries for ILLIT's "Magnetic" challenge drew divided opinions for these reasons.

Fans Embarrassed As Jeonghan, Joy Look Like They Were 'Forced' To Do 'Magnetic' Challenge

Amid the popularity of HYBE's rookie girl group ILLIT, numerous celebrities and idols are also participating in their viral "Magnetic" dance challenge.

While K-pop fans are enthusiastic about seeing that even artists are supporting the rookie act, Red Velvet Joy and SEVENTEEN Jeonghan raised brows for their versions of the trend.

On April 13, SEVENTEEN held a fan signing event online and met with CARATs (fandom).

In events like this, fans usually take this opportunity for idols to grant their requests, such as making them do a certain dance challenge or other K-pop trends.

This time, a fan shared a clip of Jeonghan doing the viral TikTok challenge for ILLIT's "Magnetic." Earlier, the group SEVENTEEN became trending for the same song when fans did an AI version of it with the group's voices.

This time, the idol performed the hand choreography of the song, but he trended not because he did well, but because of his "nonchalant" facial expression while doing it.

Fans expressed their secondhand embarrassment as the idol looked so "forced" without a smile and criticized fans who were asking idols to do stuff like this.

At the same time, Joy's clip from another fan signing event resurfaced as well, and just like Jeonghan, her "lackluster" entry also made fans laugh.

Others pity idols who have to experience this kind of request everytime they are having a fan call.

Here are some of the fans' comments:

ILLIT Fans Unhappy After Seeing Joy, Jeonghan's 'Magnetic' Dance Challenge

Amid this, some ILLIT fans weren't happy with the attitude of the senior idols as their entries seemed to be disrespectful to their juniors who worked hard for the song.

The rookie group's supporters were particularly upset at how both celebrities didn't even try to look enthusiastic while performing the trend. They even altered some of the dance steps, as if "making fun" of the team.

People then highlighted that even if they don't like to do such fan service, they could have turned down the OPs properly instead.

When accusations increased, CARATs and ReVeluvs (Red Velvet fandom) immediately defended Jeonghan and Joy. They explained that since the requests for the dance challenge were abrupt, they weren't able to learn the choreography properly.
