Celtics Clippers Trade Garnett & Doc Rivers But NBA Might Intervene [Video & Gif]

The Boston Celtics and Los Angeles Clippers are again discussing the possibly of dealing Kevin Garnett to the Clippers and allowing Celtics head coach, Doc Rivers, to follow despite still having three years left on his deal with Boston.

But the NBA might block the deal.

ESPN.com's Marc Stein and Ramona Shelburne report that both teams have communicated with the league office about questions surrounding the proposed transactions involving Garnett and Rivers and the appearance they're connected.

Despite working on two separate deals involving the Celtics' aging center, Kevin Garnett, and they're heralded coach, Doc Rivers, league rules may keep it from actually happening.

The NBA prohibits coaches from being traded, but also prevents teams from making any trade or free agent signing with contigencies, or side deals, attached to the arrangement.

And that's what a Celtics-Clippers swap would entail.

The two sides seemed to have worked out two separate deals before realizing the NBA's reluctance to allow the transaction from taking place.

The proposed deal involve the Clippers sending DeAndre Jordan to the Celtics for Kevin Garnett, straight-up as a one-for-one player swap.

Garnett, one of the few players in the league with a no trade clause in his contract, would waive it to cinch the deal.

The second move requires the Clippers to send two first-round draft picks to Boston as compensation for the Celtics letting head coach, Doc Rivers, out of he remaining 3 years and $21 million still left on his contract.

Another source connected to the talks told ESPN.com that the Celtics and Clippers have begun discussing alternative trade constructions after the league's concerns, as a way to pacify the league, which is looking closely at any deals involving the Celtics' coach and their star center.
