Following a broadcast, SNSD Tiffany earned backlash after criticizing the behavior of younger idols these days during rehearsals.
Earlier on May 15, Tiffany Young, a member of Girls' Generation appeared on MBC's "Radio Star" and showed off her outspoken remarks.
Here, she recalled working again with the "Nation's Girl Group" in 2022 for their 15th debut anniversary studio album, "FOREVER 1," and revealed her experience of being with her juniors in music programs.
In particular, she felt culture-shocked after noticing that younger idols were given some leeway or time to be "lazy" while filming for each member's fancam. This is unlike in the past where they had to give their all even if they were barely seen in the camera, even during rehearsals.
Tiffany continued:
"When I saw that, I thought, 'These friends are rehearsing so half-heartedly,' and ‘Why are they being so lazy these days?"
Even after confirming that what she saw was a soundcheck, Tiffany continued to criticize juniors for their uncoordinated breathing and positions.
Lastly, she gave her advice, saying:
"I found out that it is less tiring to have rehearsals these days. There were a lot of new things. But you know?
I guess there is a saying like that; 'First time, last time, every time.' Always do it like it was the first time, every time, always. It’s the same for rehearsals and you must always do it like it’s the real thing."
When this remark from Tiffany circulated on Instiz, it drew mixed reactions.
There are those who agreed with her and stated that she has the right to say this kind of stuff as she's already been in the music scene for about 17 years. Fans also emphasized that among girl groups, SNSD always works hard and does things really well from their debut up to date.
- "Even if she said it in passing, it still has a substance."
- "It's okay because they're good at it. Among the SNSD members, I don't see any of them acting unprofessional when performing. Indeed, idols these days don't seem to have any skills or earnestness."
- "If Girls' Generation doesn't say things like kkondae or anything like that, who will?"
- "That's why they've been running for a long time because SNSD is a group with a great live performance."
However, more internet users criticized Tiffany for implying that younger junior idols are "sloppy" during rehearsals, fearing that some artists will be mentioned again.
The SNSD member was also mocked for being "old-fashioned" and not being considerate that choreographies these days are more taxing than before.
Here are some of the comments:
- "To be honest, the idols' performances are so tight these days. If they keep doing what they did during rehearsals, they will lose their strength during the main stage."
- "No, but you're also a bit lazy."
- "To be honest, it's just a rehearsal. It doesn't seem like anything. It's not the main stage. The rehearsal is just to check the camera, sound, and stage movement. Each idol should be responsible for distributing their physical strength."
- "I don't like people saying things like this because if seniors speak in general terms, unspecified junior idols will suffer the damage. Personally, I really don't like people saying things like this."
- "There are groups that rehearse harder than your group. What are you talking about?"
- "It seems a bit thoughtless, but even seniors who are more senior than Tiffany don't say things like that."
- "It's really strange to throw a tantrum by making a fuss about rehearsals."
