In the tightly knit world of K-Pop, where the journey from trainee to idol is a carefully choreographed ascent to stardom, dorm living has long been a cornerstone of the culture.
For most idols, the dorm becomes a second home, a space shared with fellow members where bonds are forged, and dreams are pursued. However, one girl group is challenging this norm, sparking both admiration and controversy within the K-Pop community.
TripleS, a rising K-pop girl group, has announced a departure from the traditional dorm-living model, opting instead for a more independent lifestyle during non-promotional periods.
This revelation has ignited discussions among fans, industry insiders, and netizens alike. The standard trajectory for K-Pop idols involves residing in assigned dorms from their trainee days until several years into their debut.
This communal living arrangement serves multiple purposes, including fostering camaraderie among members, providing content for dorm-based reality shows, and minimizing the risk of scandals or controversies through constant monitoring by managers or fellow members.
However, TripleS has opted for a different approach.
During non-promotional periods, the group members are granted the freedom to live independently, whether in their family homes or solo accommodations.
This departure from the norm reflects the group's desire for personal autonomy and addresses the practical challenges of managing a large number of members under one roof.
In a statement released by the group, they acknowledged the complexities of communal living, especially with a sizable group of 24 members.
"The fans would be a little surprised to hear, but it's actually harder than you think to have 24 girls live in a house and promote.
Although it's so fun and enjoyable to get together and put our strength together to promote, there are some realistic problems that come with it. So during our non-promotional period, we are allowed to freely live where we want to.
Of course we all live together in dorms during promotional periods, but for non-promotional periods, we have discussed it with our company to agree on this.
For now, the ones who live outside are Hyerin, Yooyeon, Sohyun, and Jiwoo. But we have more promotions than expected, so we have to go back at forth a lot.
Also, we expect that more of us will move out in the future, so we will continue to share this with the fans."
While TripleS appears content with their unconventional living arrangement, reactions from netizens have been mixed.
Some understand the practical necessity of the decision given the group's size, while others express disappointment or disapproval, citing the departure from the cherished dorm-life concept typical in K-Pop.
The announcement has also raised questions about the timing and manner of its delivery, with some fans expressing discomfort with the public disclosure of the group's living arrangements.
