A second-generation male K-pop idol is urging his fans to send him more messages on the fan communication platform Bubble.
On July 8, a post titled, "An idol who asked whether the fans were okay wasting their money and to send him messages on Bubble" was shared to Instiz, a popular online community forum from South Korea.
The post included a screenshot of a series of Bubble messages from Jang Hyunseung, who was a former member of BEAST (now known as HIGHLIGHT). In his post, he points out that there are many people who are subscribed to his Bubble but aren't sending him messages. He scolds them for wasting their money and asks them to send him more messages.
His messages read,
"There are way too many people who aren't sending me messages."
"The kids who are just browsing here..."
"Don't you feel like you're wasting your money?"
"Please, send me some messages."
"Only the kids who send me messages sent."
Korean netizens who saw the post couldn't help but laugh at the idol's words. They couldn't believe an idol was insisting fans send him messages, especially when it is likely he receives hundreds a day. Many were surprised that idols actually want to receive messages from fans, revealing that some people don't want to send them because they assume other peoples' messages would overshadow them.
There have been several idols who have garnered flak for not being active on fan communication platforms, which has earned complaints from subscribers who feel like they are wasting their money on their bias. However, with Jang Hyunseung's situation, the tables have turned!
Some comments from netizens read,
- "The more I read it, the funnier it gets!"
- "Ah, f*ck... HAHAHAHA!"
- "Oh, this is interesting. I never knew celebrities would have these kinds of thoughts as well when they use Bubble."
- "LOL!"
- "He is so funny!"
- "Honestly, I don't usually send messages, because I think that there must be so many people who have sent messages before me so they'll never see mine. I can't believe celebrities are also thinking like that!"
- "Wow, this is freaking funny! He sounds like a personal friend."
- "No way! The tables have turned!"
- "HAHAHAHA! He really said 'Send me some'!"
- "The 'send me some' is way too funny!"
