SM Entertainment has tackled a new project.
On July 11, BBC reported that SM Entertainment and Kakao Entertainment America have collaborated for the upcoming series, "Made in Korea: The K-pop Experience," which is a six-part series that will include five male trainees from the United Kingdom.
Sources also state that the five boys will undergo the K-pop training process and are set to form the next global boy band. The show will showcase the journey of these five male trainees, as they will be immersed in the culture of K-pop for a total of 100 days.
This immersion will include learning sessions on choreography, vocals, and other aspects that can plunge them into South Korea's overall culture. The filming also took place across various landscapes and locations in South Korea.
"Made in Korea: The K-pop Experience" also included Moon&Back Media, which became a part of the team that produced shows such as "Got Talent" and "The X Factor," as well as popular boy band One Direction.
Kalpna Patel-Knight, BBC's Head of Entertainment, expressed enthusiasm about the project, "This unique acquisition will show a sense of exactly what it takes to make it in the world of K-pop."
Moon&Back Media's Co-Founder Nigel Hall considered the show as an "unmissable television" content and will "combine the Kpop and global entertainment production worlds."
SM Entertainment CEO Daniel Jang added, "Through this UK boy group project, we anticipate a palpable energy between SM Entertainment's prowess in K-pop production and Moon&Back Media's expertise in developing music-genre TV shows."
The Co-CEO of Kakao Entertainment, Joseph Chang, commented that the upcoming project is a meaningful opportunity to show the group's journey to the global audience.
The Co-CEO also shared that the show will pave a new chapter for K-pop and offer memorable content for music enthusiasts. "We look forward to witnessing the debut and growth of this boy group together," Chang added.
Earlier on November 16, 2023, SM Entertainment held a ceremony that honored an agreement between the K-pop pioneer and Moon&Back Media. Sources state that the strategic agreement includes SM's plan to invest in global music and intellectual property rights (IP).
During the ceremony, it was attended by SM CEO Daniel Jang, CBO (Chief Business Officer) Jang Yoon Joong, CAO (Chief A&R Officer) Lee Sung Soo, and Creative Director Kangta.
On the other hand, Moon&Back Media's side consisted of Music Director Ben Karter, Co-CEOs Russ Lindsay, Nigel Hall, and Dawn Airey.
Russ Lindsay also commented:
"We are thrilled to partner with SM Entertainment, one of the world's leading entertainment companies."
"We are confident that SM's creative process and Moon&Back's seasoned experience in global entertainment and curation will produce a TV series that will excite many music lovers around the world."
