SEVENTEEN Mingyu's Insecurity Crushed by MONSTA X Shownu's Response

MONSTA X's Shownu, SEVENTEEN's Mingyu, and GOT7's Yugyeom once wowed fans with their powerful performance at the KBS Song Festival in 2019.

Fast forward almost five years, Shownu and Mingyu reunited on the first episode of the YouTube show NOPOGY, where Mingyu opened up about the insecurities he faced before their collaboration.

Reflecting on the 2019 performance, Mingyu confessed his worries about not measuring up to Shownu and Yugyeom, both renowned main dancers of their respective groups.

"Back then I didn't want to be seen lacking not just physically, but skill-wise too," Mingyu admitted.

He recalled feeling pressured to perform at par with the others, emphasizing the high standards he set for himself.

"You were rather focused on how to do your part well, while I was pressured to do better than you," he shared with Shownu.

In response, Shownu reassured Mingyu, highlighting that his talent was never in question and that the decision to pair them was influenced by their similar physiques rather than performance skills.

"Rather than a performance standpoint, they chose someone of similar size," Shownu explained.

The interaction between Shownu and Mingyu not only shed light on the pressures faced by K-Pop idols but also showcased the camaraderie and support within the industry.

Both Shownu and Yugyeom, recognized for their muscular physiques and exceptional dance skills, made a significant impact on Mingyu, who felt the challenge of matching their prowess.

"They're both the finest dancers in the Korean idol world, and suddenly I was shoved in there to dance along without my members, so it was uncomfortable," Mingyu remarked.

Despite these insecurities, the reunion on NOPOGY highlighted Shownu's big brother energy, providing reassurance and a sense of belonging for Mingyu.
