LE SSERAFIM' Gets Compared to Red Velvet, aespa, NewJeans After 'CRAZY' Concept Teasers

Ahead of LE SSERAFIM's comeback with "CRAZY," the group raised brows after K-pop fans noticed their teasers' resemblance with Red Velvet, aespa, and NewJeans' concepts.

On Aug. 30, the quintet will finally return to the music scene with their 4th mini-album, "CRAZY."

Before its release, LE SSERAFIM hinted through track samplers that the album would showcase songs with various genres, such techno style, EDM-based house, rock, and hip-hop.

On August 16, the group started teasing fans with their group, unit, and individual concept photos.

While support from FEARNOTs (fandom) poured out, the group also garnered attention from other fandoms, but for the wrong reasons.

According to K-netz, LE SSERAFIM lost their "FEARLESS" image. They compared the group's recent photos to past Red Velvet, aespa, and NewJeans teasers, their competitor groups.

Starting with LE SSERAFIM's "THUNDERING CEDAR" version, the members showed striking beauty with lightning as their main element. With this, fans couldn't help but mention aespa due to the overlapping styling and hairstyles. Its compact ver. was also claimed to be aespa-coded.

The quintet then dropped its "ODD FAIRY FLOSS" version on the 17th, but people were reminded of Red Velvet for its quirky and unusual concept.

Lastly, their "HEATHERS ROCK" teaser concepts were compared to NewJeans' youthful Y2K concept, raising brows. Music fans then started theorizing if LE SSERAFIM took inspiration from various girl groups.

In online communities and SNS, the team was criticized for "losing" their "confident" and "fearless" image.

"But they really can't do the concept. It's just that everything is awkward and clumsy and it's like they're copying someone."

"The trick is to plagiarize contemporary girl groups, somehow link them to the group they plagiarized from, and then do some noise marketing and reverse controversy. Look at the comments, they're criticizing aespa."

Since debut, LE SSERAFIM consistently presented concepts that showcased details from the fashion realm. They received great responses by incorporating the team's unique colors into fashion runway and cat-walking like models.

Thus, fans are currently saddened with their concept shots.

Meanwhile, many still defended LE SSERAFIM, claiming that with numerous active idol groups, it is not impossible to have overlapping concepts.
