Hwasa Recalls How She Sparked 'No Bra' Movement in 2019—Reason She Decided to Do It

After her controversial "no bra" movement in 2019, Hwasa revealed the story behind it and how it became the most "unexpected" issue in her career.

In the recently-uploaded video in the YouTube channel Studio Suze, TV personality Jang Sung Kyu welcomed MAMAMOO Hwasa as her special visitor.

During her appearance, the two dished on the controversies faced by the solo artist, including the time how she sparked a "no bra" movement in 2019.

At the time, Hwasa make a huge ruckus after showing up at the airport braless, despite the backlash the late Sulli experienced for doing it first.

Surprisingly, many women supported her for doing so and ignited them to go braless as well. Under a conservative country, Hwasa gave them the courage to free themselves from wearing bras, considering the comfort and health benefits it may bring them later in life.

However, male journalists scandalized this movement and harshly criticized Hwasa for defying social norms and culture.

After five years, Hwasa confessed that she was shocked why it became a big deal and explained the story that she just woke up one day and shocked the Korean industry by not wearing an undergarment.

Hwasa said:

"It just gets really uncomfortable for me. When I wear a bra, I always feel so bloated after eating. I would get indigestion everyday, ever since I was young."

She continued:

"I wondered… How long do I need to keep wearing it? So, I decided to start not wearing it in more casual settings, where it’s okay. But… I didn’t know it was such a big deal. I was not aware it was so bad."
