Television network MBC has canceled the Gayo Daejejeon WANNABE awards show broadcast, originally scheduled for December 31, to honor victims of the Jeju Air Crash.

The awards show will instead air as a pre-recorded broadcast at a later date, according to an exclusive report by Xports News.

The broadcast's exact schedule, including the date and time, will be announced later. There will be no changes to the lineup of performers.

MBC has also canceled the "Entertainment Awards" and the "Drama Awards" to honor the victims of the deadly Jeju Air crash, which took the lives of 179 people and injured two out of the total 181 passengers on board, as reported by AP.

The plane, a Boeing 737-800, had departed from Bangkok and attempted to land at Muan International Airport in southern South Korea.

After an initial failed landing attempt, the plane received a bird strike warning, with the pilot issuing a distress signal before the plane came down with its front landing gear closed, overshooting the runway, and bursting into flames as it slammed into a concrete fence.

South Korea has announced a national period of mourning to honor the victims, which commenced on December 29 and ends on January 4.

"To join the nation in mourning, the live broadcast of the '2024 MBC Drama Awards' originally scheduled for December 30th at 8:40 PM has been canceled and will be replaced with a pre-recorded broadcast," MBC said.

"We pray for the souls of the victims and once again extend our deepest sympathies to the bereaved families."
