In an interview, Lay recalled the physical struggles he faced together with Kai during his trainee days for EXO.
On social media platform X (formerly Twitter), a clip showed Lay opening up about the trainee challenges prior to EXO's debut. The interviewer brought up that a month before EXO's introduction, Lay had received an injury in his lower waist due to intense training.
The injuries caused Lay to be unable to stand and left him mostly lying in bed for a month, leading to EXO's debut being postponed.
Lay revealed that he wasn't alone in the struggle, as his fellow member Kai also suffered physical strain.
"There was actually one member lying down along with me, and it was Kai," the Lit singer said.
"He was also unwell so both of us rested (a lot) that time."
Upon being questioned on the gravity of the situation, Lay confirmed that the injuries were serious.
"We couldn't dance, and we could only lie down at home," he said.
Lay then clarified that the debut wasn't exactly postponed for a month, but it was only a matter of time before he could join and avoid missing out on debuting.
"It's not like it was postponed for a month, since the month initially focused on training, and that it was only unfortunate that I wasn't able to participate that time," he said.
"However, I am lucky enough to be able to get back up and join group practices, so I didn't miss the opportunity to debut."
EXO's fans Eris also shared their thoughts on the clip, as some pointed out how passionate the two idols are in dancing, while others showed contempt for SM Entertainment.
