(G)I-DLE's Yuqi appeared as a guest on TT Studio's variety show Introduction to Physiognomy on Jan. 9, where she revealed the reason she stayed in South Korea instead of going back to China.
"Yuqi needs to feel stable in her relationship and is likely to choose to continue expanding in a stable place," said the fortune teller.
"That's why I renewed my contract," replied the idol in the interview.
Hearing this, comedienne Uhm Ji Yoon, who was also present in the studio, tried to delve deeper into the topic. She expressed curiosity about the factors Yuqi considered for her to stay in a foreign country to promote with a group that has an increasing competition, in spite of the fact that China is a larger market to expand her solo career.
"Honestly, if I just wanted to earn (more) money, I would have already gone there," the idol honestly answered.
But rather than the monetary gain, the "Tomboy" singer recalled the time she fought hard with her family to pursue what she loves in Korea — and that is to be a K-pop star.
"Now, 'let's just do what we love' is one of the reasons I renewed my contract. I was actually good at studying, so my parents wanted me to pursue something else. We fought a lot before I was able to convince them for me to move to Korea. But I think I did well."
In December 2024, Yuqi's group (G)I-DLE announced their contract renewal as a quintet under Cube Entertainment, deftly avoiding potential tension ahead of their original contract expiration in May.
