Beyoncé Calls For Moment Of Silence For Trayvon Martin; Other Celebs React To Zimmerman Acquittal, Warn Against Riots

Beyoncé called for a moment of silence for Trayvon Martin during a recent concert-and that was just one of a host of reactions to the George Zimmerman acquittal for Martin's murder.

Rapper Young Jeezy released a song in memory of Martin and Russell Simmons called for peace.

Late Saturday, jurors cleared George Zimmerman of all charges in the 2012 shooting death of the 17-year-old Trayvon Martin, who was unarmed.

Protests and riots are feared in the wake of the verdict of the racially-tinged case.

Beyoncé called for a moment of silence to honor Trayvon Martin during a Nashville, Tenn. stop on her Mrs. Carter Show World Tour.

Beyoncé's show at the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tenn began around 30 minutes after the Zimmerman verdict emerged.

"I'd like to have a moment of silence for Trayvon," the Bey said. The stage was mostly dark, with just a few lights shining.

Beyoncé then sang the chorus of "I Will Always Love You." It was an appropriate pick for the occasion, given that it was written by Dolly Parton. Beyonce then segued into her own song, "Halo."

Other celebrities and artists also reacted following Zimmerman's acquittal. Several responded with shocked and outrage.

Young Jeezy posted a new song entitled "It's a Cold World (A Tribute to Trayvon Martin)," to his Facebook page. And, let the media think he was trying to exploit the situation, he wrote, "I am in no way shape, form, or fashion ... trying to capitalize off of the latest series of events. These are my true feelings and my form of expression about it."

Simmons, who is an entrepreneur and producer, said that he plans to support the Trayvon Martin Foundation in helping to repeal laws like Florida's Stand Your Ground law, which was cited in the case. Zimmerman, a former neighborhood watchman who shot the unarmed 17-year-old Trayvon Martin, used the law to bolster his self-defense argument. S

Simmons also called for peace and against violence in the wake of the verdict, which upset many. He wrote, "we must remain peaceful. No matter what, remain peaceful."

"If u have any anger this evening," Simmons wrote on Twitter, "put that energy into challenging these horrible laws that allow overly-anxious neighborhood watchmen to carry guns and shoot innocent people. "

Simmons signed off, "God bless you little brother. Rest in peace."

There were minor reports of damage in Talahassee, Fla.; Atlanta, and California.
