Jenny McCarthy joins "The View" as its newest cast member on Sept. 9 as the replacement for Elisabeth Hasselbeck.

The announcement that Jenny McCarthy is set to join "The View" came on Monday via the ABC program itself. Barbara Walters announced it live to the world as the show prepares for a 17th season.

"We are delighted that Jenny will be joining us as a permanent co-host," Walters said on the program as Jenny McCarthy joins the View in September, adding McCarthy "brings us intelligence as well as warmth and humor. She can be serious and outrageous. She has connected with our audience and offers a fresh point of view."

Hasselbeck is leaving the show for a new gig with the Fox News Channel's "Fox & Friends" while Walters will be leaving the show next May.

McCarthy will join a list of hosts that consist of Rossie O'Donnell, Whoopi Goldberg, Star Jones, Lisa Long and a few others. "The View" is nothing new to McCarthy since she has been a guest co-host eight times and appeared on the show nine more times since the show's debut in 1997.
