Maria Sharapova Boyfriend: Serena Williams' Ex Bad Luck? Grigor Dimitrov Dates Russian Tennis Star As She Loses Tournaments, Gets Injuries And Pulls Out Of WTA Tour

Maria Sharapova's boyfriend, Grigor Dimitrov, dated the Russian tennis star during some of the roughest points of her career - when she was eliminated from the Wimbledon 2013 by a 131st-ranked qualifier, when she lost her coach of three years and when she pulled out of the West Classic at Stanford because of her left hip injury.

While all of Maria Sharapova's recent turbulent moments were not in anyway caused by her boyfriend, he has been around during points in her tennis career that might be life defining.

Maria Sharapova withdrew from the West Classic at Stanford because of a left hip injury she received during her time in Wimbledon.

Tournament director Kim Hall said in a statement Monday that organizers "are disappointed for our fans." She added that "unfortunately injuries are a part of the sport," according to Fox News.

Maria Sharapova lost 6-3, 6-4 to Michelle Larcher de Brito in the second round of Wimbledon last month - she tumbled several times during the match, complaining about court conditions, taking a medical timeout and later saying she thought she strained a hip muscle, Fox News also reports.

But some say her spotty performance in the Wimbledon 2013 can be attributed to her relationship.

Annabel Croft, a former tennis player gone reporter, told The Telegraph earlier this month that Maria Sharapova lost in the second round at Wimbledon 2013 because she was in love with Grigor Dimitrov.

"Sharapova is in love," Croft said.

"After she lost to Michelle Larcher de Brito, who was ranked 131, she spoke beautifully, with good grace and humility, and she was much less upset than I would have expected."
