Simpsons/Futurama Crossover Episode Announced at Comic-Con (Video)

“The Simsons” will do a crossover episode with “Futurama,” it was learned at Comic-Con. Matt Groening, who created both shows, announced a day after revealing that there will be a Simpsons crossover episode with “The Family Guy” that “The Simpsons” will now host the characters of “Futurama” on a crossover episode.

“The Simpsons” is the longest-running scripted show in Television history. It is entering its 25th year as an elder statesman in TV cartoons. Although it is always being threatened with cancellation. It was recently announced that The Simpsons will do a crossover episode with "The Family Guy."

Comic-Con hosted a panel in a packed auditorium with the show heads. “The Simpsons” creator Matt Groening was joined by its executive producer Al Jean, Mike Anderson, David Silverman and the voice actor Tress MacNeille. The Comic-Con panel discussion started with a special opening sequence directed by Guillermo del Toro. The sequence showed virtually every famous horror movie character and references to movies that del Toro directed. The panel announced upcoming guest voices on “The Simpsons” will include Kristen Wiig, Zach Galifianakis, Elisabeth Moss, Stan Lee and Harlan Ellison.

The panel said The Simpsons/Futurama crossover episode will be recorded next month. The episode is slated to air either as the Season 25 finale or the Season 26 premiere in the fall of 2013.

Groening promised more crossovers. Al Jean revealed that there would be sequel to "Holidays of Future Passed" in the upcoming season. Homer will dies so many times he begins to materialize as as a hologram. The assembled Simpsons producers also promised a "very musical episode." The did not elaborate.

The panel also hosted performers who sang medley of songs from the show.
