Vampire Diaries Season 5 Spoilers: Damon And Elena Are ‘A Happy Couple’ While Bonnie And Caroline Go To Whitmore College, Revealed At Comic-Con

"The Vampire Diaries" season five promises a whole bunch of interesting changes, including the relationship between Damon and Elena, played by Ian Somerhalder and Nina Dobrev, respectively. They released a few spoilers at 2013 San Diego Comic-Con.

In the fifth season, the characters of "The Vampire Diaries" will make their way to Whitmore College. Yet Latinos Post reports that fans shouldn't expect a college version of the CW series. Damon and Stefan will keep viewers tied to Mystic Falls while  Elena, Caroline and Bonnie party at Whitmore and enjoy a normal college life - well, as normal as it gets for vampires and witches.

"We were hyper aware that when shows have kids that go to college that it becomes this weird other show that feels a little different than the show that the fans life," said executive producer Caroline Dries during an interview with TVLine.

"So we just wanted to make sure it felt like 'Vampire Diaries,' yet it feels like a fresh start a new season. So I feel like we got Mystic Falls stories with Damon and Jeremy, and then Caroline, Bonnie and Elena have their new fun world."

According to Latinos Post, the dynamic between the Salvatore brothers will undergo major changes since Stefan was last seen drowning over and over at the bottom of the lake and Silas is using him as his alter ego.

"Stefan's a phenomenal character but he's a very heavy thoughtful dude. Now that guy is in a safe at the bottom of a lake for a while," said Ian Somerhalder.

"We get to play in a completely different realm which we typically weren't able to play when it was just Damon and Stefan. Not one guy was super serious about one thing while the other one was playing off that seriousness and being the joker. Now Silas is a completely different guy and if anything has the upperhand. It totally changes the dynamic between the brothers," he continued.

Also, now that Elena and Damon are officially a couple, fans of Delena are going to enjoy a time of happiness between the vampire lovers.

Executive producer Caroline Dries told Celebuzz: "We kind of want to go against the grain, and make them a happy couple without bickering and fighting every episode but actually make their relationship suffer from real life issues that come up in normal people relationships and make it less about mythological conflicts."

But fans are also aware that the off-screen romance of Ian and Nina ended this summer. Dedicated viewers are hoping that their break up doesn't influence the chemistry between their characters Damon and Elena.

"The Vampire Diaries" returns to The CW October 10.
