Nexus 5 Rumors, Specs: Release Date Set For October 5, Will Be based On Optimus G2, New Report Claims

The Nexus 5 will be released on October 5 and will be based on the Optimus G2 equipped with similar internal components, according to Korean news site Daum.

The Nexus 5 will run a stock version of Android and will feature extended battery life, the website also claims.

However, several reports claim the October 5 release date is improbable since it lands on a Saturday.

But rumors surrounding the Nexus 5 continue to point to an October release date and many speculate it will coincide with Android's anniversary as Google celebrates its 5th year with the phone operating system.

"Google will celebrate Android's 5th birthday this October and as I know the Mountain View-based giant it would want to celebrate it with some important launches: Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie and Nexus 5. Are those "5s" related to Android's 5th birthday? My guess is that they are," writes AndroidGeek.

"In fact the stars are aligning for a late fall Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie and Nexus 5 release date. Rumor has it that Android 4.3 will be launched late July and that it will be just a minor upgrade for Android 4.2.2, which can be skipped when upgrading to Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie. This move will give the phone makers more time to update their smartphones to the latest Android versions which will lead to less fragmentation."

Last week, the International Business Times reported that a recent drop in Nexus 4 stock points to an early sale date.
