HTC One M8 Vs. Apple iPhone 5s: Which Metal-Clad Smartphone Will Emerge Victorious?

HTC One M8 vs. Apple iPhone 5s: HTC just unleashed what it hopes to be the savior that can turn things around for the Taiwanese manufacturer, but is it capable of taking on the competition head-to-head? While it certainly has become among the top smartphones in the Android platform, can it match the supremacy of another iron-clad device - the iPhone 5s?

Apple iPhone 5s

When the iPhone 5s was launched, a few people were disappointed, mainly because there weren't too many changes in the smartphone. But this is how Apple does it every year, so in a way we were already expecting it at the back of our minds. While the phone's dimensions since the iPhone 5 hasn't changed, the internals made a huge jump.

From iOS 6, the iPhone 5s and 5c were launched with iOS 7, which made the Apple phone more colorful than ever. The 5s also boasts a much faster A7 chip that supports 64-bit applications. The camera lens remains the same, though there were not much to improve in that category in the first place.

However, what separated the iPhone 5s from other flagships of that period was its fingerprint sensor. Touch ID became so phenomenal that a number of succeeding launches from other OEMs put a similar tech, and that includes the recently-announced Galaxy S5.

HTC One (M8)

Months before the unveiling, there were a lot of promise for the HTC One (M7) successor. It reportedly packed a QHD screen, thinner bezels, and a far better camera than last year's model. However, as it turned out, the new flagship borrowed heavily from its older sibling, in terms of design (metal), camera (4MP though with an additional lens at the back), screen resolution (1080p), and RAM (2).

Like the previous generation, the HTC One (M8) shouts 'premum' from all sides whenever you look at its brushed metal design. On-screen buttons now grace the lower portion of the screen, but the HTC logo still remains alone at the bottom. In terms of performance, we still cannot see the difference between Snapdragon 800 and 801, though Sense 6 is said to be the cleanest version of HTC's UI ever.

The Taiwanese manufacturer has also included a number of software improvements which include more options for photography, personalization, music, and even the homescreen. In a few days we will see how the Duo Camera at the back translates in real life.

Conclusion

Both the iPhone 5s and HTC One M8 have their respective strengths and weaknesses, though either of the two may appeal to a particular portion of the market. The iPhone 5s still delivers among the best in terms of image quality and camera features, while the HTC One M8 promises 3D post-capture features.

In terms of pricing though, both devices are almost at the same level, and as the HTC phone is more than half a year newer, it may be the practical choice.
