HTC One (M8): Taiwanese Manufacturer Confirms Performance-Tweaking For New Flagship During Benchmarks, Insists It Is Not Cheating

HTC One (M8): A couple of days ago, we've heard that the famous HTC flagship has been branded by AnTuTu benchmark as a cheater in its benchmarks, posting a much higher score than its flagship counterparts even though they have the same Snapdragon 801 chipset.

Well, it turns out that HTC has indeed tweaked some of the device's settings to run in full power during such tests.

According to a report by GSM Arena, HTC answered the inquiry through CNET and admitted that it has included a 'High Performance Mode' to their fresh flagships, which automatically turns itself on when it detects a benchmarking app running.

As a result, the HTC One is said to perform much faster in certain scenarios than others, particularly those which are done by benchmarks.

However, HTC does not consider the performance-tweaking to be considered cheating. That is because the 'High Performance Mode' can be accessed through the device's Developer Options, where users can manually turn it on or off.

While the option to turn on the 'High Performance Mode' is not yet available in US versions of the device, the report said it will arrive soon via a software update.

So what do you think? Is HTC cheating, or they just secretly included the boost mode in order for the device to perform better than its competitors (which still looks like cheating)?
