How I Met Your Mom Spinoff Casting: Krysta Rodriguez, who played Wednesday Addams in the Broadway production of "The Addams Family," dropped out of a leading role in CBS the "How I Met Your Mother" spin-off, "How I Met Your Dad."

Producers decided on the change after a table read, deciding that Rodriguez wasn't working out. Krysta Rodriguez also recently starred in the Broadway musical "First Date."

Now that 'How I Met Your Mother' is over, casting is officially underway on How I Met Your Dad, CBS' in-the-works spin-off of How I Met Your Mother.

How I Met Your Dad is just like How I met Your Mother, except from the female point of view. The spinoff will center on a group of friends living in New York and follow the main character, Sally, and her journey to meeting her future husband.  "Frances Ha" star Greta Gerwig is Sally. Sally is the new Ted. Gerwig replaces Krysta Rodriguez. 

According to a CBS press release, Sally is described as a "female Peter Pan who has never grown up and has no idea of where she's going in life. She has just figured out that she has nothing in common with her husband of less than a year, and will find a solid circle of support in her friends and family."

"How I Met Your Dad" is a spin-off of HIMYM, which ended after  a successful run of nine years by revealing to the audience the  elusive "mother."   Krysta Rodriguez, who played Wednesday Addams in the Broadway production of "The Addams Family," dropped out of a leading role in CBS the "How I Met Your Mother" spin-off, "How I Met Your Dad." Krysta also starred on NBC's "Smash."

How I Met Your Dad's pilot, from 20th TV, was written by Emily Spivey and How I Met Your Mother creators Carter Bays and Craig Thomas. Different reports say either Pam Fryman or Rob Greenberg is directing.

Krysta Rodriguez is best known for her roles in TV's "Smash." She has appeared in a number of Broadway shows, including "In the Heights." In 2010, she originated the role of Wednesday Addams in The Addams Family Musical on Broadway. Rodriguez most recently starred in First Date the Musical in 2013.    Rodriguez's Broadway credits also include Good Vibrations, A Chorus Line and Spring Awakening.
