And ahead of The Sims 4 release date, new exciting details have been confirmed about the game. As posted on SimsVIP, ambient occlusion will be part of the forthcoming game. Reportedly, this Sims 4 news was confirmed by SimGuruMeatball last year.

As described on the SimsVIP post, "Ambient occlusion is used to determine how an object on screen will react to light to realistically brighten the object and cast shadows on the object itself based on where the light is hitting it." With this, fans can expect an improved appearance for the Sims 4 since the resulting image on the screen "will be far more realistic and vibrant."

Some may think that The Sims 3 is already using the Ambient Occlusion technique. However, as confirmed by SimGuruMeatball, the ambient occlusion was not applied in TS3 because of the art style used in the game.

Moreover, according to Filter Forge, "Ambient Occlusion is a shadowing technique that "calculates how much environmental light can reach a certain point of a surface, and darkens that point accordingly by filtering the incoming diffuse light - which dramatically enhances the level of realism."

Below are two sample images rendered with Ambient Occlusion, as posted on Filter Forge:
