Upcoming Windows Phones 2014: 2 New OEMs Join Nokia, Samsung, Others In WP 8.1 Platform, Two Upcoming Handsets Appear At Microsoft's BUILD Event

Upcoming Windows phones 2014: Several years ago, it was only Nokia which solely lifted up Microsoft's banner in the mobile platform industry. A year later, several OEMs tried to produce WP-powered handsets, but failed miserably (not due to their own faults) because of the virtually empty Windows Store.

Fast forward to 2014, and Windows Phone is beginning to sound relevant in the mobile platform competition against Android and iOS.

And another proof that a platform is growing is that more and more manufacturers are agreeing to produce smartphones running in them.

According to a report by GSM Arena, at Microsoft's BUILD Conference, Windows Phone head Jeo Belfiore cracked the news that two new companies have joined the WP bandwagon, namely Indian manufacturer Micromax, and Cyprus-based company Prestigio.

To show some kind of representation of the two companies, Belfiore even took out two smartphones from the OEMs and displayed it for all the developers, bloggers and audience to see.

Unfortunately, no further details were disclosed regarding the two handsets, but we assume that Micromax and Prestigio are already working on them.

Other handsets which are developing WP 8.1-powered smartphones include Nokia, Samsung, HTC, LG, Huawei, Lenovo, ZTE, Xolo, Karbonn, and Gionee.

Soon, Windows Phone fans would have more options to choose from.
