James Gandolfini may be forever known as Tony Soprano, but he was a talented and versatile actor who was just beginning to stretch his movie muscles. the Trailer for James Gandolfini's last movie, "The Drop," was released yesterday and it shows a different take on the gangster roles that Gandolfini plays.


James Gandolfini is a gangster again in his last movie. The trailer for The Drop, featuring James Gandolfini's final film role, has been released. 

The trailer for James Gandolfini's last movie The Drop dropped today and it's a crime thriller set in Brooklyn. James Gandolfini is a gangster again. Gandolfini stars 
alongside Tom Hardy in The Drop, the new film from Michaël R. Roskam whose Bullhead was nominated for an Oscar. Gandolfini isn't playing Tony Soprano, mob boss with a goatee. He's a workaday mob guy.


The Drop was written by Dennis Lehane, who also wrote Mystic River. It also stars Noomi Rapace and Tom Hardy. According to the press release "THE DROP is a new crime drama from Michaël R. Roskam, the Academy Award-nominated director of BULLHEAD. Based on a screenplay from Dennis Lehane (MYSTIC RIVER, GONE BABY GONE), THE DROP follows lonely bartender Bob Saginowski (Tom Hardy) through a covert scheme of funneling cash to local gangsters - "money drops" - in the 
underworld of Brooklyn bars. Under the heavy hand of his employer and cousin Marv (James Gandolfini), Bob finds himself at the center of a robbery gone awry and 
entwined in an investigation that digs deep into the neighborhood's past where friends, families, and foes all work together to make a living - no matter the cost."
Talking about Tom Hardy's performance, Dennis Lehane told USA Today "Tom was intensely inquisitive," screenwriter Dennis Lehane told USA Today about Tom Hardy's turn. "He mined every single piece of marrow out of that character."


This will be James Gandolfini's last film. Gandolfi starred with Julia Louis-Dreyfus in the romantic comedy Enough Said. James Gandolfini had a heart attack and died on 
June 19, 2013. He was 51. 
The Drop is Rated R and will hit theaters on Sept. 19.
